The Car

UNLIMITED 5.0 is designed for the 2023 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge and is the team's first three-wheeled solar car and first silicon-cell based monohull design. The team designed UNLIMITED 5.0 with an emphasis on reliability, serviceability and safety, hoping to make this our most reliable solar car yet.

The Return to Silicon

UNLIMITED 5.0 features 4m2 of Sunpower silicon solar cells encapsulated by Gochermann Solar Technologies. With the team's last full sized solar car, UNLIMITED 3.0, using triple junction gallium arsenide cells and having only 2.64m2 of array area, the return to silicon presented significant design challenges.

Designed for Aerodynamic Efficiency

UNLIMITED 5.0 features a highly optimised aerobody that has been expertly manufactured by Sydney Composites. This aerobody allows the car to effortlessly cut through the air while providing a the necessary solar collector area and a stable design.

100% In-House Chassis

Our chassis and driver cell was proudly manufactured entirely in-house at our workshop at Kingswood. Using the world class Belotti 5-axis CNC machine in the Advanced Manufacturing Precinct we were able to machine the buck's for the chassis. Then the team created fibreglass moulds and then layed carbon fibre into them to create the final product.

Carbon Fibre Structures

UNLIMITED 5.0 features an aerobody and chassis manufactured from carbon composites. Carbon fibre provides excellent strength for it's weight, allowing for our car to protect our driver while remaining efficient.

Precision Machined Suspension

To keep UNLIMITED 5.0 stable and connected to the road it features highly optimised, precision machined aluminum suspension.
